Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, in collaboration with the Erasmus Students Network (ESN), organised a workshop on making martenitsas. Erasmus students from all universities in Plovdiv were welcomed with a short presentation on the unique Bulgarian tradition, its legend and the custom of wearing martenitsas. The students paired up and twisted white and red threads together. In a friendly atmosphere filled with laughter, they crafted beautiful martenitsas for all their friends which they decorated with colorful beads. The students were introduced to various methods of making martenitsas. They participated in two different contests – who coud make the longest martenitsa and who could make a martenitsa the fastest.
At the end of the creative workshop, everyone was given a martenitsa for health and good luck from their new friends.
